This week I witnessed devoted parents stand vigil over their teenage son who was hit by a car. He’s in the PICU with road rash, multiple fractures, and chest tubes. And his lung has collapsed twice in the past 12 hours.
In the ER, a much too young woman suffered a massive stroke that left her unable to move anything except for her face. She could only speak small phrases and mostly communicated with her eyes to her husband when he was given the terrible responsibility to decide if a very risky procedure/treatment should be pursued that didn’t even have a great success rate or leave his wife as is, with a 30% chance for improvement in her condition.
One hour ago a 19 year old passed away after being ejected from his vehicle in a car accident. We don’t even know if his father, who was driving from several hours way to the hospital his son had been airlifted to, made it in time.
Wow…young or old, life is crazy, unpredictable, and non-discriminatory. I am saddened, humbled, and struck by how I think things like this just can’t happen in my world… Time to reevaluate.
Peace, comfort, faith and hope for these patients and their loved ones.
